2013 Met Gala – The oscars of fashion channel the punk era

Sarah Jessica Parker mixed punk with glamour and showed off her fashion A-list status in a Giles Deacon gown, plaid Christian Louboutin boots and a Philip Treacy feathered headpiece.
Fashion’s biggest night took over New York City last night. The venue was the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the theme was dark, edgy and rebellious. Simply put, it was punk. Anna Wintour hosted the event with actress Rooney Mara who brought her best version of punk to the big screen in the english speaking version of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”. The event’s other co-chair was socialite and Vogue contributing editor, Lauren Santo Domingo. The punk themed event apparently caused a frenzy amongst stylists and stars alike as many wondered how they would mix this very specific style with the glamour that the red carpet requires. As stars from the entertainment, fashion and sports world congregated on the famed Metropolitan stairs, the one question on everyone’s mind as always was “who are you wearing?”. Here’s a breakdown of the night’s most daring looks.

Beyonce disappointed in an overwhelmingly un-punk paisley Ricardo Tisci gown with matching paisley boots (trust us, we never thought we’d put paisley and boots together in one sentence either)

Last year’s co-host Carey Mulligan kept with the dark and edgy theme in a chocolate brown cut-out dress

Ginnifer Goodwin’s punky pixie was right at home at the event. The actress looked stunning in Tory Burch

Gwyneth Paltrow wasn’t the only one who equated pink with punk. Anna Wintour vouched for the color as well.

January’s Mad Men co-star Jessica Pare also went with dramatic eyes paired with a blue Jason Wu halter

Kerry Washington went gothic in a purple Vera Wang gown which she matched to her hair and paired with elbow length leather gloves

The worst dressed award of the night went to Kim Kardashian who made her Met Gala debut in head to toe floral print Ricardo Tisci

Call us crazy but we love that Nicole Richie went all the way punk in her colored hair and beaded column gown

Chic looks of the week – The best of New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week is officially over and things are moving on to London, Paris and Milan. Before we get to the trends on the runway however, let’s take a peek at the looks that stood out all over the city. Fashion Week is always a time for actresses, editors, buyers and many more style aficionados to strut their best stuff from tent to tent. As photographers and industry insiders anticipate the looks on the runways, there’s usually another kind of buzz happening pre-show. Starlets give their best model impressions while posing in the front row while editors who these days have just as much star power rub shoulders and schmooze with Hollywood. From the Fashion’s Night Out festivities that kicked things off, straight to the runways of Calvin Klein, Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Victoria Beckham, Rodarte and many more, here’s a little behind the scenes look at a few of our favorite “girls about town” and their very stylish outings this fashion week.

Olivia Palermo steps out to support Piperlime during Fashion's Night Out in a printed shift and animal print sandals

Nikki Reed attends a Michael Kors event during Fashion's Night Out in a gold number from the label with cut out details

Kate Bosworth helps open the Proenza Schouler boutique in NYC wearing the label’s leather-trimmed skirt and white blouse

Trend Spotting: Forget the winter blues, shocking yellow is taking over Hollywood
Last week’s red carpet proved that Hollywood was foregoing winter and heading straight for spring. From the range of bold colors that took over the carpet, one would never guess that we were in the throes of winter. One color in particular that the stars can’t seem to get enough of is shocking yellow. This color was huge over the summer and continues to gain steam on the carpet –with no signs of slowing down. From neon shades to sequin embellished looks, color blocked pieces and elegant gowns, there’s nothing mellow about this season’s yellow. Based on what we’ve seen on the spring runways plus the already active awards season, get ready to see more of this gorgeous, stand out color. (more…)

Fashion round-up: Chic looks of the week
From Kirsten Dunst’s sweet gingham print dress to Kristen Stewart’s bold Monique Lhuillier number and Kate Hudson’s golden Gucci look, this past week was filled with some very out of the box looks as well as the traditional party outfits. Some other drool worthy looks included Blake Lively, who delved deep into the midst of shocking color–sporting a red leather trench to a Christian Louboutin book event, Katie Holmes going for bronze and proving that relaxed elegance is achievable and Jenifer Hudson showing off her svelte figure and animal instincts in Michael Kors. Here’s a round-up of this week’s most fashionable looks…

Spring trend alert : Floral print is in full swing
We’re continuing our week of featuring spring’s hottest trends and today, it’s all about the full bloom. The floral print is HUGE for spring. This is a trend that started last summer and has continued to make a stylish and consistent showing since. Who could forget Jessica Alba’s rosy Dolce and Gabbana or Sarah Jessica Parker’s floral Vivienne Westwood number.
The floral print is such a fun and feminine print and is the absolute perfect way to bring in the warm weather. It’s also a great alternative for those who don’t want a print as bold as the tribal print trend that’s also prominent this season. Everyone from the First Lady, Michelle Obama to Kate Bosworth, Kerry Washington, Mila Kunis and Brooklyn Decker has tried this trend.
