Steal this look – Going casual with the polka dot trend
Kelly H asks: I’ve seen a lot of polka dots on the runways and in magazines. What’s a chic way to wear this trend in real life without being too over the top?
W: I recently wrote about polka dot tights for fall and the polka dot trend in magazines and on the runway. The tights are a great way to try out this trend without investing too much. They’re fun, light and whimsical and you can pair them with anything from dresses to skirts and trenches. Since dots come in different sizes, I would suggest going with smaller dots to start out. The dress below is a $15 find at Walmart (My theory is that you never know where you’ll find a hidden gem). I love the one shoulder look because it allows you to show off just the right amount of skin and the layers and frills of the dress add to the fun and flirty feel that come with the polka dot print. I added a pop of color with a yellow bag and kept my shoes neutral so as not to take away from the print. Hope this helps!
What do you think of the look above? Are you into the polka dot trend?
Trend spotting – The art and style of the polka dot
Polka dots continue to take over this summer and they’ll most certainly be sticking around for fall as well, thanks to heavy hitters like Marc Jacobs who featured them on the fall runways in an assortment of sizes. We’ve already covered the polka dot tights trend to keep you inspired for the upcoming fall season. Now we’re graduating to clothing. The re-emergence of polka dots this season has produced some chic and out of the box pieces from designers like Stella McCartney, while maintaining the classic whimsy that the print is known for, thanks to others like Oscar de la Renta. From the runways to magazine spreads and the red carpet, scroll down below to experience the art and style of the polka dot.

Blake Lively was not the only starlet gracing magazine covers in this coveted print, Emma Stone also covered Elle Magazine covered in polka dots
