Look of the day – Jessica Alba is a floral princess in Valentino
Very few people can go from edgy to colorful and make a turn around to elegant within the week. Jessica Alba happens to be one of those. Sporting a gorgeous and elegant blush Valentino frock with floral embroidery, the actress showed off her sense of polish at the Baby2Baby Gala in Los Angeles. With a sleeked back do, clean makeup and a matching blush belt cinching her waist, she hit this look way out of the park. What do you think? Hit of Miss? Share your thoughts below.

Chic looks of the week – The best of New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week is officially over and things are moving on to London, Paris and Milan. Before we get to the trends on the runway however, let’s take a peek at the looks that stood out all over the city. Fashion Week is always a time for actresses, editors, buyers and many more style aficionados to strut their best stuff from tent to tent. As photographers and industry insiders anticipate the looks on the runways, there’s usually another kind of buzz happening pre-show. Starlets give their best model impressions while posing in the front row while editors who these days have just as much star power rub shoulders and schmooze with Hollywood. From the Fashion’s Night Out festivities that kicked things off, straight to the runways of Calvin Klein, Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Victoria Beckham, Rodarte and many more, here’s a little behind the scenes look at a few of our favorite “girls about town” and their very stylish outings this fashion week.

Fashion round-up: Chic looks of the week
With the summer season slowly coming to an end and the fall season creeping in, it’s interesting to see the mix of looks trending during this in between season on the red carpet. Electric blue was the go-to color this past week with stars like Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba and Kirsten Dunst making statements in this bold hue. Red was also a hot trend and so was lace and laser cut leather. While stars like Twilight’s Ashley Greene chose bright colors to help them stand out, bold print continued to reign supreme with Gwyneth Paltrow, Nina Dobrev, Zooey Deschanel and Maria Sharapova opting to show off in everything from batik to floral and polka dot prints. Check out our favorite looks from the past week below.

Trend spotting – Printed pants are heating up the summer months
We’re knee deep into the summer months and we’re continuing with our trend spotting duties this week with a bold look taking over the carpet. Gone are the days of simple streamlined trousers, these days it’s all about bringing a little edge and a bit of funk to your look — courtesy of printed pants. From floral to ikat, denim to billowing shorts, stars are opting for something different when it comes to bottoms this summer. Here are some of our favorite looks so far.
Style tip: As fun and funky as this trend is, keep in mind that print on the bottom sometimes has the tendency to make you look bigger than you are (especially with denim) and even the tiniest person has to keep this in mind. Check out Olivia Palermo’s look below for a great way to incorporate this trend. Her high-waisted, ankle length trousers are a great play on print and proportion. The fit is great, the print doesn’t overwhelm her small frame and the material doesn’t cling to every inch of her body. Zoe Saldana’s shorts look below is also simple, elegant and incredibly easy to wear. One last thing to remember with this trend is to always keep things simple on top. The bottom is the focal point of your look and therefore your statement piece. If you’re going with color, pick one color from the print and go for a top that features that block of color. This is a great way to tie your whole look together.

Fashion round-up: Chic looks of the week
From Kirsten Dunst’s sweet gingham print dress to Kristen Stewart’s bold Monique Lhuillier number and Kate Hudson’s golden Gucci look, this past week was filled with some very out of the box looks as well as the traditional party outfits. Some other drool worthy looks included Blake Lively, who delved deep into the midst of shocking color–sporting a red leather trench to a Christian Louboutin book event, Katie Holmes going for bronze and proving that relaxed elegance is achievable and Jenifer Hudson showing off her svelte figure and animal instincts in Michael Kors. Here’s a round-up of this week’s most fashionable looks…

Style Pick – Going 70s chic in wide leg pants
Wide leg pants have been elongating legs since the 70s. There’s an effortless “chic” about this style that allows women to look elegant without sacrificing any of their femininity. Part of the perks of this cut is that it makes you feel tall and lean. Stars like Elle McPherson, Jessica Alba, Penelope Cruz, January Jones and Katie Holmes who all range from super petite to super tall have all rocked this style. This shows that most women can get away with it, it’s just about finding the right material, length, width and fit.

Even pregnant women can look fabulous in this cut. Jessica Alba looked uber chic while running errands in wide leg jeans and a blazer.

Clearly the cut works for her - Here's Holmes again in wide leg jeans and an embellished Isabel Marant jacket.
This cut has also been incorporated into one of summer’s hottest trends – jumpsuits.
Keep in mind - There is such a thing as too much fabric and too much width especially if you’re petite. This cut like I mentioned earlier is meant to make you taller and leaner, not shrink you. Hilary Duff’s look below is a prime example of how not to wear wide leg pants.

Hilary Duff's wide leg trousers unfortunately have too much material and do absolutely nothing for the expectant actress. They distort her figure and instead of looking stylish, they look clownish.
Test driving this style…
As a tall girl, it’s always been a bit difficult for me to find jeans with inseams that work for me, so wide leg denim pants have been my BFFs for a long time. Here’s one of my favorite dark blue wide legs paired with a white v-neck and a double breasted blazer.
What do you think of this cut? Are you loving it?…Already wearing it or willing to try it? Check out more on my personal style and chic picks here.

Trend spotting: The return of the jean jacket
The jean jacket trend survived through the 80s and the 90s…popped collars, acid wash rinses and all. After taking a few years off, it’s back with a stylish vengeance. No crazy cartoon characters on the back and definitely no sequins or embellishments attached. Just the good old fashioned jean coolness. The popped collars still remain but we can live with that. As always, Hollywood has caught on to the return of the jean jacket. Below, check out some stylish ladies interpreting this classic piece and putting their own spin on it. Tell us what you think of the jean jacket revival….are you ready to dig yours out of the 90s closet?
