2013 Met Gala – The oscars of fashion channel the punk era

Sarah Jessica Parker mixed punk with glamour and showed off her fashion A-list status in a Giles Deacon gown, plaid Christian Louboutin boots and a Philip Treacy feathered headpiece.
Fashion’s biggest night took over New York City last night. The venue was the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the theme was dark, edgy and rebellious. Simply put, it was punk. Anna Wintour hosted the event with actress Rooney Mara who brought her best version of punk to the big screen in the english speaking version of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”. The event’s other co-chair was socialite and Vogue contributing editor, Lauren Santo Domingo. The punk themed event apparently caused a frenzy amongst stylists and stars alike as many wondered how they would mix this very specific style with the glamour that the red carpet requires. As stars from the entertainment, fashion and sports world congregated on the famed Metropolitan stairs, the one question on everyone’s mind as always was “who are you wearing?”. Here’s a breakdown of the night’s most daring looks.

Beyonce disappointed in an overwhelmingly un-punk paisley Ricardo Tisci gown with matching paisley boots (trust us, we never thought we’d put paisley and boots together in one sentence either)

Last year’s co-host Carey Mulligan kept with the dark and edgy theme in a chocolate brown cut-out dress

Ginnifer Goodwin’s punky pixie was right at home at the event. The actress looked stunning in Tory Burch

Gwyneth Paltrow wasn’t the only one who equated pink with punk. Anna Wintour vouched for the color as well.

January’s Mad Men co-star Jessica Pare also went with dramatic eyes paired with a blue Jason Wu halter

Kerry Washington went gothic in a purple Vera Wang gown which she matched to her hair and paired with elbow length leather gloves

The worst dressed award of the night went to Kim Kardashian who made her Met Gala debut in head to toe floral print Ricardo Tisci

Call us crazy but we love that Nicole Richie went all the way punk in her colored hair and beaded column gown

It’s official, tangerine’s out and emerald green is in – Pantone picks color of 2013

Catherine Zeta Jones showed us why she’s Hollywood royalty in an emerald Monique Lhuillier at the 2011 Golden Globes
Tangerine is out and Emerald Green is in. It’s official, Pantone has announced the regal color that is Emerald Green as the official color of 2013. This shocking, rich hue is right in line with the gorgeous colors shown on this past year’s runways. Interestingly enough, this particular shade of green has been burning up the red carpets as well as the runways for quite some time now, so it makes sense that it’s coming to the forefront of fashion in the upcoming year. It’s a color that transcends trends and seasons. It can go from a structured sheath to a ball gown and back to skinny jeans. In honor of this stunning color, we’ve combed our Rue de Chic Blog archives for some of our favorite Emerald Green looks. So, are you excited to get green? 2011 Oscars Red Carpet – The trends, the couture and the stars who wore it best
The Awards show season ended on high note at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Stars came out in full force in their best couture and once again we’re breaking down all the red carpet action. Scroll down for a complete look at the night’s biggest trends and best dressed.
Scarlet Beauties…
There’s no doubt red played the headlining role on the carpet. Everyone from Host, Anne Hathaway to Best Actress Nominee Jennifer Lawrence and last year’s Best Actress Winner Sandra Bullock turned up the heat in this color.
Going nude…
Stars continued to show their love for the “nude” trend which was all over the red carpet this award season. It’s a soft feminine look that works beautifully on almost every skin tone.

True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld looked like a modern day princess in her age appropriate custom Marchesa gown. Kudos to the young actress for her fashion choices this awards season.
If all else fails, go with white…
The red carpet always has it’s “white moments” and the Oscar’s carpet was no exception.

Reese Witherspoon color blocked with a little white and a lot of black in a retro chic Giorgio Armani Privé and matching retro updo
Minimalist and Metallic…
The minimalist trend was huge for fall and we saw a lot of it at the Golden Globes this year, the same goes for the metallic trend. Both Celine Dion and Gwyneth Paltrow carried on the torch.
All shades of Purple…
A pleasant surprise of the night was the many shades of the color purple on the carpet. From lilac to plum, there were so many beautiful dresses that spanned the spectrum of this gorgeous color.

Cate Blanchett shows off her unpredictable yet always fitting sense of style in a lilac Givenchy Haute Couture gown with beaded accents and a pleated skirt

Finally! Natalie Portman looked absolutely beautiful in this violet Rodarte off the shoulder gown. Sometimes it pays to stick with what you know works and her collaboration with the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte always works. The dress flows beautifully and compliments the pregnant star's current physique. Her retro curls finish off her look perfectly.
Other notables…

Best Supprting Actress Nominee Amy Adams in a cap sleeved, sequined L'Wren Scott and Emerald Cartier Jewels. The jewelry set would have been better suited for another dress. The color unfortunately clashes with her dress and the necklace doesn't work with her dress' neckline either. Elegantly cut diamond drop earrings would have made the perfect accessories here.
Until next year….

Rue de Chic Look of the Day – Gwyneth Paltrow Keeps it Chic in Shorts
Shorts are the perfect way to start off the summer and quite frankly there’s no better way to round off the summer. The key to keeping it chic is in the length. Gwyneth Paltrow shows off her long, lean gams in chic highwaisted shorts complimented by a simple silk white blouse and pointed toe pumps. It’s a very simple look but nonetheless a very elegant one.
