Lagerfeld the outrageous – The designer’s most outspoken and shocking statements to date

Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld

Talented, yes. Cultured, yes. Outspoken, absolutely. We all know Karl Lagerfeld is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world. As the genius behind the rejuvenation of the house of Chanel, Lagerfeld has single handedly brought the iconic brand into the modern world without losing any of it’s classic charm. Although most agree that he’s incredibly talented, he has also found many ways to ruffle quite a few feathers with his words. The trilingual (German, French and Italian) designer has quite a way with words that only he can get away with. From fellow designers to ex-muses, supermodels, royals and his mother, no one and no fad is safe from the brutally honest opinions of Monsieur Lagerfeld. We’ve compiled some of the 77 year old’s most outrageous quotes for your Friday viewing pleasure.

On his mother…
“I love hats, in a way, but when I was a child, I’d wear Tyrolean hats, and my mother – I was something like eight – said to me, ‘You shouldn’t wear hats. You look like an old dyke…’ Do you say such things to children? She was quite funny, no?”

On not having children…
“It would have been difficult to have an ugly daughter.”

On the Middleton sisters…
“Kate Middleton has a nice silhouette and she is the right girl for that boy, I like that kind of woman, I like romantic beauties. On the other hand, her sister struggles. I don’t like the sister’s face. She should only show her back.”

On style at the royal wedding…
“This was not a collection, this was the choices of this kind of woman for this kind of ceremony: the bad proportions, the ugly hats, the short skirts on fat legs”

On Russians…
“If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly. There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell’s boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men.”

In spite of his outspoken nature, the designer always seems to be in on the joke

On fellow German and supermodel Heidi Klum…
“I don’t know Heidi Klum, she was never known in France. Claudia Schiffer also doesn’t know who she is.”

On Ines de la Fressange, his former muse…
“I wish her all the luck in the world, just so long as I don’t have to see her anymore or hear her spoken about.”

On designer, Yves Saint Laurent in 1984…
‘He is very middle-of-the-road French-very pied-noir, very provincial.”

On Lana del Rey…
“Is she a construct with all her implants?”

On women who complain about seeing thin models in fashion magazines…
“They are fat mummies sitting with their bags of crisps in front of the television, saying that thin models are ugly.”

On the Queen of England…
“She looks a little bit like her grandmother– a more smiley version. In terms of what she wears, she’s come into herself a little bit more– whatever that is.”

On being working-class…
“I’m a working-class person, working with class.”

On meetings…
“I don’t do meetings.”

On office work…
“There’s something boring about people who have to go to an office for a living.”

On losing all that weight…
“Some people would like me to be round again.”

On working so much…
“Why should I stop working? If I do, I’ll die and it’ll all be finished.”

On tattoos…
“I think tattoos are horrible. It’s like living in a Pucci dress full-time.”

Finally, on not taking his words so seriously…
“Everything I say is a joke. I am a joke myself.”

2011 SAG Awards Red Carpet: The trends, the hits and the misses

The awards season continued last night with the Screen Actors Guild gala and so did the red carpet tango. Hollywood stars descended on the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center to strut their stuff. When it came to trends, white ruled the carpet, red and black followed strong and floral patterns showed a spring state of mind. Scroll down for a complete breakdown of who rocked it and those that missed the mark.

White was the color of the night…

Amy Adams looks gorgeous in a white gown by the original King of bandage dresses, Herve L. Leroux.

Newly divorced Eva Longoria also looked stunning in a Grecian, white Georges Hobeika gown.

SAG Best Actress Winner and Oscar front runner Natalie Portman was also in white, going with a bejeweled Azzaro gown. Unfortunately, this gown just didn't work for the pregnant star. The fit looked uncomfortable. A flowing bodice would have served her better.

Another miss in white was Wynona Ryder who wore Alberta Ferretti. Her too-tight bodice and layered skirt with exposed tulle channeled a bad wedding gown.

The blush tones continue…

Rizzoli and Isles star Angie Harmon went ultra feminine in a light pink, feathered Monique Lhuillier.

Hilary Swank looked like a goddess in a one shouldered Versace.

Glee's Heather Morris also took a bite out of this trend in her feather and jewel adorned dress.

Heather's fellow Glee cast mate Jayma Mays went peachy in a draped Jenny Packham dress.

On the other end of the color spectrum, black was another stand out color on the carpet…

Nicole Kidman wore a black Nina Ricci gown with cap sleeves and lace inserts.

The Closer's Kyra Sedgwick wore a velvet vintage Thierry Mugler.

Glee's Amber Riley worked her figure in an Anne Barge gown.

Another Glee star, Diana Agron donned a black and blue Chanel gown. The awkward length of this chic gown unfortunately overwhelmed her petite frame. On the other hand, her hair and makeup were flawless.

Modern Family's Julie broke away from the sea of dresses in a low cut Malandrino jumpsuit

Mad Men's Christina Hendricks also tried something different in a L'Wren Scott wrap dress. Black is 99% of the time a slimming color but this dress gives off a very heavy and dense feel, probably because of the texture. This combined with her dark make up overwhelms her fair features.

Red was another major hue of the night…

Tina Fey wore a lace Oscar de la Renta.

Nurse Jackie's Edie Falco in Bottega Veneta

Julianna Margulies wore an Yves Saint Laurent creation which featured another big trend of the night, a sweetheart neckline.

Hands down, best dressed of the night was Best Supporting Actress Nominee, Mila Kunis in an absolutely gorgeous and ethereal floral Alexander McQueen

Speaking of floral but not quite in the red category…

Best Actress Winner for the TV Movie Temple Grandin, Claire Danes wears a belted blue and black Louis Vuitton floral creation

Several stars went the metallic route…

Lea Michele wore a slinky and low cut metallic Oscar de la Renta. We may be able to say the Glee star's devotion to Oscar de la Renta may soon rival Renee Zellweger's love for all things Carolina Herrera.

30 Rock's Jane Krakowski played up her pregnancy bump in a chic and short one shouldered Badgely Mischka sheath and nude peep toe pumps.

Mad Men's January Jones changes things up and goes for gold in a conservative but elegant lace Carolina Herrera. This dress may have looked even better with no sleeves or a different neckline. Nevertheless, kudos to Ms. Jones for never being afraid to try something new.

Stand out hues of the night…

Winter's Bone's Jennifer Lawrence stood out in a gorgeous hot pink Oscar de la Renta number.

True Grit break out star Hailee Steinfeld was playful and colorful in Prada.

Modern Family's Sofia Vergara knows what works for her and sticks to it, donning a cobalt blue Cavalli gown with a plunging neckline. It's not the first time she's rocked this color and she looks fabulous in it.

Dexter's Julia Stiles took a risk that paid off in an elegant navy blue and white ombre gown.
