Beauty Pick – e.l.f Studio Powder Brush

e.l.f studio powder brush

The e.l.f studio powder brush is dense, picks up the perfect amount of powder and gives a beautiful finish

Any girl will tell you that no matter how great your makeup brush is, you’re always on the lookout for a better one. There’s always the fear that you’re missing out on something great or worse, that your current one will get discontinued. Let me start by saying that I like my makeup brushes full, thick and soft (much like how I prefer my hair too as a matter of fact but that a story for another day). After many disappointments with kabuki brushes falling apart and natural/organic brushes not living up to their best potential, I finally hit the jackpot with a recommendation that came from my make-up artist sister. One of the beautiful perks of having a lot of girls in the family is that you never miss out on a good product.

What I love most about e.l.f products is that you get something great without having to pay a fortune. Most of the individual products are under $5.00. The studio powder brush in particular ($3.00) has the fullness and sturdiness of a kabuki brush while giving you full coverage with a natural finish. It’s a dense brush that picks up the perfect amount of powder and feels incredibly soft on the skin. In addition to its anti bacterial properties, it can also be used with wet or dry products. e.l.f products are available at your local Target stores or online.

To say that Scandal star, Kerry Washington is having a “moment” is a bit of an understatement. Recognizing that it is indeed her moment, the actress who plays crisis management consultant Olivia Pope on “Scandal,” and serves on President Barack Obama’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities was honored with 3 awards at the 44th Annual NAACP Image Awards this past weekend in Los Angeles.

Marion Cotilllard’s navy blue Dior Couture look is elegance at its best.

The season of celebrating the highest achievements in film continued this weekend with the Screen Actors Guild Awards. As usual, we have all the red carpet trends as well as the best looks in tow. If black was the color of the 2013 Golden Globes, navy blue was the color of the SAG Awards. While one of the best dressed ladies of the night –Marion Cotillard stunned in navy Dior Couture, other chic ladies like Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Lawrence and the statuesque Nicole Kidman gave her a run for her money in the trending hue. Other stand out beauties of the night include Jennifer Garner in gold Oscar de la Renta and Jessica Chastain in red hot Alexander McQueen. While a lot of the stars played it safe on the carpet, the “risk-taker” award of the night  would have to go to Mad Men’s January Jones, The Good Wife’s Julianna Margulies and Homeland’s Claire Danes for their bold black and white looks. President Obama’s family looks on as he is sworn into office by Chief Justice John G. Roberts

This weekend, Hollywood joined forces with the political powers that be to celebrate President Obama being sworn into office for a second term. Stars like Eva Longoria, Kerry Washington, Katy Perry, Rosario Dawson, Beyoncé and Jay-Z descended upon Washington D.C to show their support for the President. At the historic event, all eyes were of course on the stylish first family and Hollywood guests. FLOTUS Michelle who debuted a new set of bangs over the past week, sported an incredibly chic Thom Browne coat and accessorized with Reed Krakoff boots and a jeweled belt and gloves from J. Crew. Her earrings were designed by Cathy Waterman. Malia, 14, wore a plum coat by favorite J.Crew while little sister Sasha, 11, looked lovely in Kate Spade. Who wore it best? Jessica Alba, Kristen Stewart, Kerry Washington and Kirsten Dunst all take on Louis Vuitton’s checkerboard print

Kristen Stewart stepped out in a checkerboard print Louis Vuitton Romper at a Tokyo press event for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Since Hollywood has the oh-so-great fortune of getting a head start on all trends and runway looks, it was only a matter of time before all the looks from the Spring 2013 RTW shows made it onto the red carpet. One of our favorite shows of the season was Marc Jacob’s colorful, eclectic and 60s infused presentation complete with checkerboard prints, flowers, neon colors and school girl bows. Twilight princess Kristen Stewart was the first to step out in a brown romper during her promotional tour of Breaking Dawn PT. 2. Other stars like Kerry Washington and Jessica Alba and Kirsten Dunst soon followed suit.

Retro Chic at Louis Vuitton's Spring 2013 RTW Show

Retro Chic at Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2013 RTW Show

We love the retro feel of this print and it certainly takes a lot of fashion courage to step out in these looks. So who wore it best? Kristen Stewart takes the crown in this round. Since the actress always looks a tad awkward in skin tight dresses, it’s nice to see her at ease in this look. She looks effortlessly chic while retaining her tomboyish style. Kerry Washington takes the runner up position for having such an unpredictable sense of style and for going all the way by sporting a hair bow straight from the runway that most wouldn’t dare try out. Her minimalist take on this look gets her two thumbs up. What do you think? Who takes the cake in your book? Share your thoughts below + check out the looks directly from the runways of Louis Vuitton.

2013 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet – The night’s biggest trends plus the good, bad and unimpressive

2013 Golden Globes – Jennifer Lopez in a nude lace Zuhair Murad number.

The Golden Globe Awards descended upon the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills once again this year for its 70th year. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Adele, Anne Hathaway, Claire Danes, Halle Berry, Kerry Washington and many more stepped out in Couture and diamonds to celebrate this past year’s achievements in film and television. As usual, we have the night’s biggest trends, plus the best and worst looks of the night. Black was the night’s number one color with stars like Salma Hayek and Sofia Vergara draping their famous curves in pieces by Gucci and other big name designers. Red also made a prominent showing on the carpet while pastel colors and nudes showed that they’re here to stay thanks to dresses worn by Jennifer Lopez, Amy Adams, Hayden Panettiere and Amanda Seyfried. With all the serious hits also came some devastating misses. Olympic Medalist Gabby  Douglas made a wrong turn with her Golden Globes debut by sporting a “too grown up” sequin number. Usual red carpet stunner Halle Berry was also an unfortunate miss. Her Versace gown had too much print going on and left very little to the imagination. Here’s a complete breakdown of the night’s looks.
