Ginnifer Goodwin sizzles in a hot pink Roksanda Ilincic dress

I love it when I see a risk on the carpet that pays off and I definitely have to say kudos to Ginnifer Goodwin for not always playing it safe when it comes to her red carpet style choices. She’s gone bold in shocking color, played with texture and print and is not afraid to experiment with edgy cuts when it comes to her hair. Above, she continues her reign as  a red carpet favorite in an absolutely gorgeous hot pink Rocksanda Ilincic frock. Her glamorous waves are a perfect match for her retro bell sleeves and with neutral makeup and edgy accessories, her look is pure perfection. What do you think of Ginnifer’s look? Karlie Kloss vs Camilla Belle

This week’s edition of Who wore it best? features one of the season’s most coveted colors. The look comes straight from uber designer Carolina Herrera’s Spring 2012 line and was strutted down the runway by model du jour Karlie Kloss. Actress Camilla Belle was the first to take the dress for a spin at the Art of Elysium gala and she looked absolutely beautiful in this gorgeous dress. So, on to the heavy task of deciding who wore it best.

This color is gorgeous on both model and actress but the straps look like they were shortened for Camilla and that little tweak in turn changes the look of the bust. Moreover, one of the selling points of the dress is the tea-length hem and you can’t really tell with Camilla’s because the length goes way past her ankles. I would also have loved to see her in sandals with less fabric. Simple t-strap gold heels would have been perfect for this. That being said, Camilla wears the back well. The delicate ribbon of this dress fits her frame and the train doesn’t overwhelm her. It’s both feminine and elegant and she carried it well. It looks like we’e looking at a 50/50 situation here. Last week’s red carpet proved that Hollywood was foregoing winter and heading straight for spring.  From the range of bold colors that took over the carpet, one would never guess that we were in the throes of winter. One color in particular that the stars can’t seem to get enough of is shocking yellow. This color was huge over the summer and continues to gain steam on the carpet –with no signs of slowing down. From neon shades to sequin embellished looks, color blocked pieces and elegant gowns, there’s nothing mellow about this season’s yellow. Based on what we’ve seen on the spring runways plus the already active awards season, get ready to see more of this gorgeous, stand out color.

Style Tip: Yellow is a perfect way to bring a colorful element of surprise to your outfit. So how do you make it work with what you already have? You don’t have to commit to a full blown yellow dress this winter, opt instead for a boyfriend cardi in the shocking color which works well over neutral or patterned dresses. You can also try a neon version of this color in a simple and light v-neck sweater. Tuck it into a pair of high-waisted jean trousers for an effortlessly chic look. You get to mix the best of the 70s and 80s without running into a style faux-pas.

From straight modern styles to bohemian chic locks and channeling old Hollywood glamour in tight waves, the Golden Globes Red Carpet was filled with interesting hair style choices. If you’re looking for some hair-spiration for the new year, we’ve got you covered. Try out Julie Bowen’s “modern retro” style or Nicole Kidman’s  ”bohemian chic” look with these DIY tips from their stylists.

Inspired by Grace Kelley’s classic style, celebrity stylist, Jill Crosby  gave Modern Family’s Julie Bowen (Winner of Best Comedy TV Series) a “modern retro” look that complimented her peach gown with diamond capped shoulders.

Jill Crosby’s  Award Show Style How-to:

To get Julie’s look, Jill finger-dried her hair using the T3 Featherweight Luxe Dryer to create volume. Jill then applied a setting spray and began to create different sized “S shaped” waves  using the T3 SinglePass Whirl (wand style iron). At the hairline, Jill used the smaller end of the T3 SinglePass Whirl’s barrel and then the larger end as she worked her way down. Each time, Jill secured the curl in place with a straight clip.

Jill set Julie’s entire head with roughly 30 curls and then Julie had her make-up applied while the look set. After the clips were removed, Jill brushed from the front of the head to the back creating “S shaped” loose curls. Jill finished the look by combing it out with a wide tooth comb and then gently applying a small amount of hairspray using her hands.

“I set the angle of the curl on a diagonal so when I brushed it out it made an “S shaped” soft, dropped curl.  I did not want tight curls but rather beautiful, loose ones creating a ‘Grace Kellyesque’ look”

DIY:

We asked Jill how to easily get the look at home:

• Simply use the T3 SinglePass Whirl to create “S” waves
• Don’t worry about pinning the curls or creating different sized curls; you will still get a similar look

Created by celebrity hair stylist, David Babaii, the look included a perfectly smooth, silky mane with subtle “half moon” curls at the ends. The style gave Nicole a curly wave at the bottom of her hair providing movement and texture.

David Babaii’s  Award Show Style How-to:

To get Nicole’s look, David started with wet hair, applying a dime-sized amount of Miracle Oil Elixir by David Babaii. He then created a luminous and smooth blowout using the medium sized T3 AntiGravity Barrel Brush and the T3 Featherweight Luxe Dryer.  David parted Nicole’s hair down the middle and used the T3 SinglePass Flat Iron to straighten the root, sealing the cuticle. Next, David randomly selected pieces of hair; using the 1.25” T3 SinglePass Twirl Curling Iron, he created “half moon” bends at the ends, creating beautiful, subtle curls.

David added that there is “a lot of humidity and moisture in the air today so it was important to use the very best tools and oil to create a style that would look gorgeous all night”

DIY:

We asked David how to easily get the look at home:

• “Anyone can get this look at home if you use high-performance tools and styling products such as I did”
• “For someone with perfectly straight hair, you can skip the flat iron and just use the curling iron on the ends.”
• TIP: “Whether you’re using the flat iron or curling iron, when you are finished, DON’T touch your hair; you need to let the cuticle close and the style set.

Awards season 2012 is in full swing and the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards officially kicked things off this weekend as the stars descended upon the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. The red carpet was filled with soft, dramatic and elegant looks as well as surprising hits and misses. Stars like Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron showed why they’re known as red carpet royalty while new comers like Paula Patton brought a breath of fresh air and color to the carpet. Here’s a breakdown of the night’s biggest trends, hits and misses.

It was a night of gorgeously light colors. Lavender, blush and nude dresses ruled the carpet and this is just a taste of what’s to come this spring. The feminine allure of pastels is hard to resist and when paired with the right silhouette, it’s pure heaven. Above, nominee, Charlize Theron kicked things off in beautiful blush Christian Dior.
