Who wore it best: Demi Lavato vs. Selita Ebanks in an edgy gladiator inspired look
The look: It’s been a while since we’ve had a fashion showdown. So here we go… Demi Lavato has been stepping out of her comfort zone when it comes fashion lately. The new X Factor Judge recently sported a super edgy look complete with feathers and a sleek blonde ponytail at the Teen Choice Awards. This however isn’t the first time that the Falguni and Shane Peacock dress has made it’s way to the red carpet. Model, Selita Ebanks also wore the yellow and black frock (albeit a slightly modified version) to the BET Awards not too long ago.

The verdict: This is not an easy look to pull off. From the graphic print to the gladiator-esque shoulder caps, both ladies get some serious kudos for giving it a shot. Demi rocked the edgy look all the way and she gets points for follow through. Her high and sleek ponytail pulled up with a leather band also adds to the edge of the overall look. After much consideration, we’re giving this round to Selita. There’s something unexpected about the sheer black overlay of her dress. Also, the idea of showing skin while not technically revealing all makes it a very sexy look. Do you agree? Whose look do you prefer? Share your thoughts below.
Red carpet round-up: Style favorites from the Teen Choice Awards
It’s that time of the year again. The Teen Choice Awards descended on Hollywood last night with stars like Kristen Stewart, Rob Pattinson, No Doubt, Lea Michele, Nina Dobrev, Zooey Descahnel, Ellen DeGeneres and many more not only in attendance but also strutting their stuff on the red carpet. The awards honor the year’s biggest achievements in music, movies, sports, television, fashion and more, voted by teen viewers. This year, the casts of “The Hunger Games” and the “Twilight” saga were all winners. So were the TV series “The Vampire Diaries” which picked up several awards and “Pretty Little Liars” with four awards, including choice TV drama.
The broadcast featured performances by Carly Rae Jepsen, Flo Rida, Justin Bieber and No Doubt, who took the stage with their first televised performance of their new single, “Settle Down.” On the purple carpet, the looks were kept simple and colorful. Here are some of our favorite looks of the night.

On the other side of town, Essence Cosmetics was introducing its affordable products to tinseltown at the gifting suite for the Teen Choice Awards. Here’s a run down of that event.
What: To celebrate the Teen Choice Awards, the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills opened it’s doors to companies like Essence Cosmetics, Carribean Living Magazine and many more eager to showcase their products in Hollywood. I stopped by the Essence Cosmetics booth to check out their latest offering for fall. Since its launch in 2002, Essence has focused on producing trendy and high quality cosmetics at a sensational low price (under $5). Produced in Europe and with hits like the matt bronzing powder, long lasting lip gloss, nail art and polish, it’s no wonder customers keep coming back for this affordable makeup line.

Trend spotting – Printed pants are heating up the summer months
We’re knee deep into the summer months and we’re continuing with our trend spotting duties this week with a bold look taking over the carpet. Gone are the days of simple streamlined trousers, these days it’s all about bringing a little edge and a bit of funk to your look — courtesy of printed pants. From floral to ikat, denim to billowing shorts, stars are opting for something different when it comes to bottoms this summer. Here are some of our favorite looks so far.
Style tip: As fun and funky as this trend is, keep in mind that print on the bottom sometimes has the tendency to make you look bigger than you are (especially with denim) and even the tiniest person has to keep this in mind. Check out Olivia Palermo’s look below for a great way to incorporate this trend. Her high-waisted, ankle length trousers are a great play on print and proportion. The fit is great, the print doesn’t overwhelm her small frame and the material doesn’t cling to every inch of her body. Zoe Saldana’s shorts look below is also simple, elegant and incredibly easy to wear. One last thing to remember with this trend is to always keep things simple on top. The bottom is the focal point of your look and therefore your statement piece. If you’re going with color, pick one color from the print and go for a top that features that block of color. This is a great way to tie your whole look together.
What do you think of the printed pants look? Will you be trying it this summer? Share your thoughts below.
Fashion round-up: Chic looks of the week

Diane Kruger took a risk at the Chanel Couture show in a pastel hued dress, newsboy hat and spiked Christian Louboutin flats
This past week got an extra style boost from fashion week. As expected, stars like Milla Jovovich and Jessica Alba stepped out in Paris sporting their best Designer wear. In fact, most of the week’s best looks were captured entering the worlds of Chanel, Dior, Armani and Versace. Summer chic was the name of the game with actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Leslie Mann making debuts at the Couture showings in chic and sophisticated looks while veterans like Diane Kruger stepped out of the box a little. Elsewhere on the red carpet, Blake Lively continued to show off her style chops while making the talk show rounds; another risk taker, Kate Bosworth showed off her sexy back in Hugo Boss and Katy Perry brought out embroidery and tulle in a dramatic Marchesa dress. Here are the most notable looks from the past week.

Celebrate 4th of July in style – 4 simple tips to keep you chic this holiday week
As we approach 4th of July this year, many of you will be attending various events through out the week commemorating independence day. When it comes to fashion, celebrating our nation in style should be easy, fuss-free and definitely uncomplicated. Here are a few tips to help you do just that.
1. Go Nautical Chic – You can incorporate red, white and blue in ways that look effortless. Nautical pieces are a great way to do this. Go for stripes, white is a cool must, sailor shorts are playful and a linen navy blue button down is relaxed but chic.

Eva Longoria dresses up her Enza costa striped shirt and white shorts with nude pumps. Switch out the pumps for flats and you're good to go.
2. Casual Chic is underrated – You can be casual yet beautiful. Whether you’re attending a barbecue, heading to the beach for fireworks or hanging out in a friend’s backyard, your comfort should always take priority. Pair a whimsical polka dot halter dress with some Converse high-tops or try a printed, light weight racer-back tank with a pleated pastel-hued maxi skirt. You’ll look beautiful, effortless and most importantly, you’ll be comfortable.
3. Color block to perfection – Red, white and blue are actually perfect colors to color block with. For a dressy night out, try a red romper with a pair of cobalt blue peep toes. If you’re not sure how to coordinate a seamless look with these colors, opt for a pre-blocked piece.
4. Step outside of the box – Summer is the perfect time to step out in gorgeous colors. So far, this season has been filled with beautiful pastels and shocking hues. You can go soft and feminine in lavender and mint green or make a bold statement in blood orange, fuchsia and marigold. For a super funky look, try out a flowy water color print dress or a floral print romper with a statement necklace.
