Look of the day – Sarah Jessica Parker goes bold in Russia
She’s gone chic in London, pretty in Japan and elegant in New York. This time, SJP is bringing some bold fashion choices to Russia. The former Sex and the city star is out and about promoting her latest film, I Don’t Know How She Does It. She stepped out in a gorgeous, flowing red gown with a matching cape at the Russian premiere.
Red seems to be the color du jour for SJP; she wore a chic, printed Prabal Gurung sheath with red accents at an earlier press conference. What do you think of SJP’s look? Does she still have it?
Trend Spotting – Tuxedo inspired looks
There are so many chic items to borrow from the boys. From boyfriend watches to boyfriend jeans, over-sized shirts to ties and suspenders, we’ve taken so many of these items and put our lady-like stamps on them. One stand out “borrowed look” of the summer has been the tuxedo-inspired look and boy do we wear it well. Below, fashion forward stars like Diane Kruger, Camilla Belle and Kirsten Dunst showcase this very hot trend.
What do you think of the tuxedo inspired looks on these fashionable ladies? Would you wear this trend?
Fashion at the MTV VMA’s – The good, the strange and the outrageous
There are several award shows that you can count on for ridiculous and over the top fashion, the VMA’s is definitely in that category. With plunging necklines, extremely strange accessories and glitter and sequins to last a lifetime, here’s a breakdown of last night’s red carpet at the Nokia Theater and accompanying after parties.
The stand out look of the night…

The show stopper of the night was of course Beyonce, in a flowing blood orange Lanvin gown. The Singer announced her pregnancy on the carpet.
Black was prominent on the carpet and so were plunging necklines…

Jojo's overly dramatic corset top and bubble skirt created an unfortunate bubble butt and overwhelmed her small frame
All that glitters…

Vanessa Hudgens goes retro in a shimmering silver dress at the Candie's 2011 MTV Video Music Awards After Party
Prints…

Ashley Tisdale attends Candie's 2011 MTV Video Music Awards After Party in a floral print mini with cap-sleeves and peep toe booties
Of course it all went down from here…
Until the Grammy’s…
Photography meets fashion: The Sartorialist (A look at the man behind the lens)
It’s 2:30am and after spending the past few hours editing 3 articles back to back, exhaustion seeps in. In spite of the fatigue, I have one more thing to do that I’m positive will bring me some much needed late night / early morning rejuvenation – I have a date with The Sartorialist. If this title doesn’t ring a bell or has very little meaning to you, then you haven’t experienced the power of the lens through the exquisite eye of Scott Schuman. A self-taught photographer and fashion blogger, Schuman has the uncanny talent to take you and engage you in the world of the stylish, elegant and chic. Sitting at your computer and sifting through his gallery of beautiful and fashionable shots, you realize that like Alice in wonderland, you’re not only fascinated by this marvelous world, you’re also excited to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.
It’s not an over the top assumption to state that we’re a bit of a voyeuristic society. One only has to look at the plethora of celebrity magazines, blogs and behind the scenes specials to back up this statement. Schuman’s photos, which have a certain simplicity and elegance to them, are in a class of their own. With willing subjects, he provides a glimpse into the way everyday individuals express themselves through fashion – without judgment.
As a loyal reader of Schuman’s blog – The Sartorialist, it’s only normal to expect that so many wonder about the man behind the lens. How does he make it look so easy? How is he able to seamlessly capture such simple, vivid and captivating images?
To answer these questions, as part of Intel’s “Visual Life” video series and 2nd generation core processor promotion, roles are flipped and the camera is on Schuman. Viewers get to experience a day behind the lens of the artist and it’s quite rewarding.
The documentary is a rare treat for fans of Schuman’s work and will no doubt make new followers of those not familiar with him. As the film comes to an end, one more thing stands out – as much as Schuman makes it all about his subjects, the truth is the photos are interesting because of him. He is very much a part of each photograph.
It’s 3:30am and I’ve visited Paris, Rome, New York and Stockholm, all in one sitting. Schuman has provided a window for people to connect and get away and sometimes, getting away means everything.
Who wore it best – From the runway to the carpet (Model vs. Rihanna)
In today’s edition of who wore it best, Rihanna sports an Antonio Berardi 2012 Resort look while promoting her fragrance, Reb’l Fleur. Antonio Berardi is known for putting an interesting twist on trends whether it’s with mixing fabrics or creating interesting colors. Who could forget the very chic LBD Blake Lively wore to last year’s premiere of The Town?
Most runway looks never make it into production or on the red carpet. The idea is to create fantasy during a show and most people lean towards practicality in real life. Needless to say, it’s always fantastic to see celebrities like Rihanna take fashion risks on the carpet instead of going for cookie cutter looks. Ginnifer Goodwin recently sported a very edgy and colorful Roksanda Ilincic look at comic con, which not only showcased her interesting style but also made her stand out. Below is the runway look from Berardi’s collection.
So who wore it best…The model or Rihanna?
This week in color – Here are the best and worst colorful looks of the week
From stripes to polka dots, color block done wrong and sequins gone awry, here are the good, the just ok and the not so great colorful looks of the week…
A pop of color…

Busy Philipps cinched her tan polka dot dress with a red belt and completed her look with a cobalt blue fold-over clutch
This week’s misses…

Tyra Banks clearly had not learned from last week's jumpsuit debacle at the Teen Choice Awards - She sported a color blocked jumpsuit at the Do Something Awards

Hilary Swank also went with a color blocked mini but looked less than impressive in the tan and orange number

Another miss this week was Olivia Wilde in a sea-foam pleated Chloe dress. This dress did absolutely nothing for her figure. The pleats were overwhelming, making her look dowdy and matronly, even with the keyhole cut in front.

Rose McGowan likes to take risks and this time she showed up at the Conan The Barbarian premiere in a multi-colored, gradient style sequin dress. Yes, it's all about the 70s this summer but there's something off about the shape of this dress. Too many sequins have the tendency to make one look bulky. She also looks like she's not breathing which is never good.
What do you think of this week’s looks? Which were your favorite and which did you want to stuff back in the closet? Share your thoughts…
Style Pick – Going 70s chic in wide leg pants
Wide leg pants have been elongating legs since the 70s. There’s an effortless “chic” about this style that allows women to look elegant without sacrificing any of their femininity. Part of the perks of this cut is that it makes you feel tall and lean. Stars like Elle McPherson, Jessica Alba, Penelope Cruz, January Jones and Katie Holmes who all range from super petite to super tall have all rocked this style. This shows that most women can get away with it, it’s just about finding the right material, length, width and fit.

Even pregnant women can look fabulous in this cut. Jessica Alba looked uber chic while running errands in wide leg jeans and a blazer.

Clearly the cut works for her - Here's Holmes again in wide leg jeans and an embellished Isabel Marant jacket.
This cut has also been incorporated into one of summer’s hottest trends – jumpsuits.
Keep in mind - There is such a thing as too much fabric and too much width especially if you’re petite. This cut like I mentioned earlier is meant to make you taller and leaner, not shrink you. Hilary Duff’s look below is a prime example of how not to wear wide leg pants.

Hilary Duff's wide leg trousers unfortunately have too much material and do absolutely nothing for the expectant actress. They distort her figure and instead of looking stylish, they look clownish.
Test driving this style…
As a tall girl, it’s always been a bit difficult for me to find jeans with inseams that work for me, so wide leg denim pants have been my BFFs for a long time. Here’s one of my favorite dark blue wide legs paired with a white v-neck and a double breasted blazer.
What do you think of this cut? Are you loving it?…Already wearing it or willing to try it? Check out more on my personal style and chic picks here.
Look of the day – Mila Kunis’ chic London run
Mila Kunis has been very busy overseas promoting her romantic comedy – Friends with Benefits with Justin Timberlake and she’s kept her red carpet style easy and chic during her promotional duties. Her Cacharel floral frock which showed off some leg was fresh and sexy while her polka dot navy blue dress gave the petite star a touch of whimsy.
What do you think of Mila’s looks? Rate them below.
Check out other stars who’ve shined in floral and polka dot looks.
TGIF – Going casual chic in a shirt-dress
There are days that even the most fashion savvy individuals don’t have the time to put things together. On these days, it’s all about something effortless, quick and chic and that’s where the shirt-dress comes in. A perfect weekend look, it’s short, comfortable and sweet. Dressing it up is as easy as adding some heels (see test driving the trend photo below) or you can keep things simple with some thong sandals. Stars like Cameron Diaz, Alessandra Ambrosio and Reese Witherspoon all love the appeal of the shirt-dress. Simply put, it’s easiness and simplicity is irresistible.
Test driving the trend – I’ve always kept a shirt-dress in my wardrobe for those casual days. I like it in a neutral color like gray because it stays the same no matter how many times you wash it. Living in Los Angeles, it also works well during the fall months. I just pair it with some funky stockings – either textured or with a fun print like polka dots. I complete my look with a scarf and some booties and I’m good to go.
