2011 Oscars Red Carpet – The trends, the couture and the stars who wore it best
The Awards show season ended on high note at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Stars came out in full force in their best couture and once again we’re breaking down all the red carpet action. Scroll down for a complete look at the night’s biggest trends and best dressed.
Scarlet Beauties…
There’s no doubt red played the headlining role on the carpet. Everyone from Host, Anne Hathaway to Best Actress Nominee Jennifer Lawrence and last year’s Best Actress Winner Sandra Bullock turned up the heat in this color.
Going nude…
Stars continued to show their love for the “nude” trend which was all over the red carpet this award season. It’s a soft feminine look that works beautifully on almost every skin tone.

True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld looked like a modern day princess in her age appropriate custom Marchesa gown. Kudos to the young actress for her fashion choices this awards season.
If all else fails, go with white…
The red carpet always has it’s “white moments” and the Oscar’s carpet was no exception.

Reese Witherspoon color blocked with a little white and a lot of black in a retro chic Giorgio Armani Privé and matching retro updo
Minimalist and Metallic…
The minimalist trend was huge for fall and we saw a lot of it at the Golden Globes this year, the same goes for the metallic trend. Both Celine Dion and Gwyneth Paltrow carried on the torch.
All shades of Purple…
A pleasant surprise of the night was the many shades of the color purple on the carpet. From lilac to plum, there were so many beautiful dresses that spanned the spectrum of this gorgeous color.

Cate Blanchett shows off her unpredictable yet always fitting sense of style in a lilac Givenchy Haute Couture gown with beaded accents and a pleated skirt

Finally! Natalie Portman looked absolutely beautiful in this violet Rodarte off the shoulder gown. Sometimes it pays to stick with what you know works and her collaboration with the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte always works. The dress flows beautifully and compliments the pregnant star's current physique. Her retro curls finish off her look perfectly.
Other notables…

Best Supprting Actress Nominee Amy Adams in a cap sleeved, sequined L'Wren Scott and Emerald Cartier Jewels. The jewelry set would have been better suited for another dress. The color unfortunately clashes with her dress and the necklace doesn't work with her dress' neckline either. Elegantly cut diamond drop earrings would have made the perfect accessories here.
Until next year….

Halle Berry and Kristin Davis bring elegance to the Costume Designers Guild Awards
If this is a preview of what to expect at this Sunday’s Oscar Awards Red Carpet, then we’re all in for a treat. Halle Berry left her custody troubles at home and stepped out in a gorgeous, elegant and incredibly sexy crimson lace Elie Saab gown. Sex and the City’s Kristin Davis also put her best fashion foot forward, taking cue from New York fashion week’s print filled runways and stepping out in a polka dot Oscar de la Renta fit for a Park Avenue princess.
New York fashion week wrap up – Get the hottest trends + tips on making the runway looks your own
The good news for everyone is that trends for this year’s spring season will be carrying over to the fall 2011 season – which means it all boils down to how you put your looks together. Even better news is that this upcoming fall season is guaranteed to be anything but boring. Judging from the richness of color, texture and print on the runways, it’s going to be an exciting season. Here’s a breakdown of the biggest trends from New York fashion week:
1. Leather – The leather movement is going strong and from what we saw during New York Fashion Week, it has no intention of slowing down. From 3.1 Phillip Lim to Alexander Wang, Derek Lam, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, leather made a huge splash. It came in pants, shift dresses, pastel colors, rich dark colors and it was fabulous.
Style Tip: This is such an easy trend to incorporate into your wardrobe. You can pair some leather leggings with an oversized sweater and pumps, go for a rocker chic look with a motorcycle jacket which can be worn with skinny jeans, leggings or a dress to add a feminine touch.
2. Color – The runways were rich with color for fall, two colors in particular made their mark – Cobalt Blue and Emerald Green. Everyone from Oscar de la Renta to Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Ralph Lauren and 3.1 Phillip Lim showed their love for these colors. Other interesting colors to look out for fall are Marigold and burnt Orange. Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler and Victoria Beckham all featured these gorgeous colors.
Style Tip: Color is the best and easiest way to stand out with your fall wardrobe. Go for structured jackets in shocking colors to incorporate this runway trend into your wardrobe. Try a cobalt blue swing jacket or an emerald green trench coat. You’ll keep warm and stay stylish.
3. Print – If color played a starring role in the collections, print played a co-starring role. Oscar de la Renta’s runway was rich with exotic prints which is an extension of what we’ll be seeing this spring. Marc Jacobs made us fall in love with polka dots, big and small and Proenza Schouler incorporated his mélange of prints into everything from structured jackets to pants, skirts and shift dresses.
Style Tip: Always balance out your prints with an item in a solid color. Pair a tribal print shift dress with a structured black blazer or print pants with a simple pastel colored silk top.
4. The new “Pants” – The runways featured sleek, elegant trousers for fall so once spring and summer are over, don’t pack up those 70s inspired pants just yet. Sticking to the theme of elegant simplicity, the “it” pants of the season are definitely the ankle pants. Everyone from Calvin Klein to 3.1 Phillip Lim and Jason Wu showed us the perfect city chic look with these pants.
Style Tip: These pants are equally chic with a pair of oxfords or sky high pumps.
5. Lace – Looks like lace is here to stay. Both Carolina Herrera and Monique Lhuillier showed very feminine and elegant looks incorporating lace and lace print. Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu also featured this trend.
Style Tip: The key to keeping the elegance of this trend is to find something that doesn’t show too much skin or combines the use of other materials like black silk or leather.

Jennifer Lopez’s current gigs as an American Idol judge, “Legs” of the Venus brand and L’oreal spokeswoman isn’t slowing her down. The actress/musician attended a UNICEF event in a Gucci frock that showed off her toned features. Earlier last week, she was a disco queen in a super short, silver Emilio Pucci number at the 2011 Grammy Awards. She definitely shines blending sexy with sophistication and we can’t wait to see what she pulls off next.
Still struggling to come up with the perfect Valentine’s Day gift?

We recently featured an InStyle Magazine / Sports Illustrated Poll where 64% of Men said they would be sticking with flowers this year while 17 % are going with jewelry….the other 19% are pretty sure they’ll forget to pick something up….sounds predictable right? Well we’re here to help. Here are some ideas to help you achieve that wow factor this year.
If you’re looking to go all out, look no further than the glamorous Courchevel, France. The Chalet de Pierres restaurant returns this ski season after a five million euro renovation and debuts the first-ever “en piste” Chanel Boutique. The owners of the Hotel de Charme Les Airelles acquired the restaurant and updated its interiors, set an ice rink on the terrace, and appointed the renowned Chef Mathias Dandine.
Situated just steps from the Verdons ski run, this enchanting slope-side restaurant is set to become the premiere hotspot on the Alps. The new design features stonework from the former Maurienne train station, a slate tile roof, finely worked pine balustrades and a sprawling terrace.
An all around romantic package, nothing beats cozying up in an absolutely stunning location with breath taking views and amazing food. Chef Mathias Dandine, formerly of the Michelin-starred Hotel des Roches restaurant on the French Riviera, created a menu of traditional French specialties incorporating regional produce and meats. “The restaurant exudes a warm and authentic spirit reflected in the regional menu, and we will continue signature items such as the famous dessert buffet, the Beaufort Pie, and freshly baked goods made on-premises,” said Chef Dandine.
Lastly, no restaurant is complete without its own Chanel boutique. Conveniently located at the entrance of the Chalet de Pierres, the famed fashion house opens an outpost featuring fur boots, cozy knits, signature handbags and fab cold weather gear. For more information and to make reservations, visit www.ChaletdePierres.com.
