The awards season continued last night with the Screen Actors Guild gala and so did the red carpet tango. Hollywood stars descended on the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center to strut their stuff. When it came to trends, white ruled the carpet, red and black followed strong and floral patterns showed a spring state of mind. Scroll down for a complete breakdown of who rocked it and those that missed the mark.
White was the color of the night…
The blush tones continue…
On the other end of the color spectrum, black was another stand out color on the carpet…
Red was another major hue of the night…
Speaking of floral but not quite in the red category…
Several stars went the metallic route…
Stand out hues of the night…
Winter can be a little drab and while the main thing on your mind is probably keeping warm, your winter looks shouldn’t suffer. The trench coat can always be counted on for it’s stylish allure. Nothing beats the classic trench in tan or black but this winter, feel free to bring some spice to your wardrobe with a colored trench. Blake Lively looks ever-so-chic and oh so stylish in a green Burberry trench and fur stole on the set of Gossip Girl in New York City. The fit, the color, the cut, the fur are all on point and quite frankly, nobody does a perfect trench coat like the British power house.
Fall and winter brought the motorcycle jacket in different types of leather. As spring approaches, this style staple will continue to make a strong showing. You’ll see it in cotton, with a bit of stretch and it will also come in different lengths. You’ll get your choice of everything thing from puff sleeves to 3/4 length. The reason this trend is so popular lies in it’s versatility. You can pair it with bold dresses as Jessica Alba seamlessly shows us above or with jeans or leggings. All in all, it’s just an incredibly easy piece to work into your wardrobe. Get this look with the black “Camryn” motorcycle jacket below.
Actress, Halle Berry was spotted looking casual cool while out and about in Los Angeles with French boyfriend Olivier Martinez. Her leather jacket is effortless yet edgy and is a perfect piece to dress up or down. Get her soft leather look with the “Gemma” layered leather jacket below.

Actress Katie Holmes recently stepped out with her husband Tom Cruise and little girl Suri in New York City. Looking to amp up her look a little, she accessorized her super chic coat with an equally chic and luxurious quilted Satchel. Elegant bags are a sure way to look polished during the winter months. Since all that bundling up doesn’t really allow you to showcase your best winter wear, chic outerwear and accessories always do the trick. Get Katie Holmes’ look with the Quilted Satchel from Rue de Chic below.
When it came to red carpet style at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards, it was all about being soft, feminine and delicate. Blush, pink and nude colors ruled the carpet and the same can be said for the beauty trends. One stand out Star was Disney darling, Selena Gomez whose look was created by celebrity make-up artist, Karan Mitchell. Inspired by Gomez’s beautiful Catherine Deane coral colored gown with golden chain accents, Mitchell relied exclusively on Anastasia Beverly Hills products to achieve an ultra feminine, fun and flirty look. The result was flawless. Here’s a breakdown of what went into creating Selena’s look. All Anastasia Beverly Hills products are available at Sephora, Nordstrom, ULTA & Anastasia.net.
CREATING SELENA’S SHOW STOPPING EYES & LASHES
For the base of the lid, Mitchell used the first two shades from the ILLUMIN8 with YOUTHFUL SYNERGY™ COMPLEX EYE SHADOW PALETTE #1 ($40), blending on the eyelid as well as from the crease to the brow as a highlight.
Then she blended the soft plum accent shade 4 from ILLUMIN8 with YOUTHFUL SYNERGY™ COMPLEX EYE SHADOW PALETTE #1 on the crease as well as blending up and outward all the way to the eyebrow on the outer edges.
Next, Mitchell wet the deep onyx shade from ILLUMIN8 with YOUTHFUL SYNERGY™ COMPLEX EYE SHADOW PALETTE #2 and used it as a liquid liner on the top lashes.
Treat your eyelashes as you do your hair. You want to round-brush Lash Lifting Mascara ($22) into the root of your upper and lower lashes for definition.
CREATING SELENA’S FIERCE BROWS
To define brows begin with sketching in Brow Wiz (Selena used Medium Ash) over brows using light upward strokes, filling in brows completely, as if you were drawing little hairs.
Then use the wand brush on the other end of Brow Wiz ($20) to blend the brow color through. This will soften the product and create a natural effect.
To highlight the brow bone apply Brow Duality ($23) (Selena used Camille/ Sand) highlighter pencil on the brow bone starting above the iris to the end of the brow and blend using the fingertip.
To ensure longevity brush Clear Brow Gel ($21) in short upward strokes, being sure to apply in the same direction of hair growth. This will lock it in!
GET SELENA’S GORGEOUS LIPS & CHEEKS
Using the amazing wand, swipe HydraFull Gloss ($21) across the lips.
Using your ring finger gently tap the crème cheek color from the Highlighting Crème Duo ($35) (Selena used St Tropez) to apples of cheeks, blending to hairline.
For a sexy glow and highlighted cheekbones apply a small amount of the liquid highlighter along the cheekbones and blend on to your shoulders too!
Nudes, pastels, sequins and emerald green ruled the red carpet at Sunday’s 2011 Golden Globe Awards. While some Stars shone, other heavy hitters like Halle Berry, Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman didn’t fare so well. Here’s the low down on the good, the bad and unfortunately, the not so impressive…
Matching your skin tone has been one of the biggest trends of the season and the carpet was swarming with gowns featuring this trend. Everyone from Scarlett Johannson to Sandra Bullock, Glee’s Diana Argon and Michelle Williams took a bite out of the “nude” apple.
Not so impressive in this hue…
A-list Stars took a cue from the disco era trend taking over the runways and glittered on the carpet.
Unfortunately, even sequins couldn’t save these Stars…
Green with envy…
Emerald green was the color of goddesses on the carpet.
Bringing more color to the stylish carpet were some super stylish ladies…
On a lighter note…
Nominees Claire Danes and Emma Stone both went the minimalist route in pastel colored Calvin Klein numbers. Megan Fox, Lea Michele and Best Actress Nominee, Natalie Portman also went the light pink route.
Two ladies who failed to impress in Pink, Best Supporting Actress nominee Julianne Moore and Best Actress Nominee, Natalie Portman.
It wouldn’t be the Globes without the prerequisite black…
Another hot mess…
On to the Oscars….
It’s always a little crazy when you start spotting spring ad campaigns in the magazines and stores clearing out their winter merchandise in January…if you’re jonesing for spring and warmer weather already, here’s something to look forward to in the “pants revolution” arena while you’re in between. We’ve done the skinnys and the jeggings…in the upcoming seasons, it’s going to be all about the crisp wideleg trousers and 3/4 length looks…also, be on the look out for trousers with scallop edged tops too a la Drew Barrymore below.
Wemi: Leah, There are definitely quite a few chic ways to rock your velvet blazer.
1. Because of the rich texture of the material, you can go the casual chic route and pair it with some skinny jeans and a silk camisole under the blazer (the silk will complement the velvet perfectly)…you can finish off your look with some booties or pumps.
2. Once again working off the richness of the blazer, you can pair it with a dress. For the winter months, deep but shocking colors like cobalt blue, plum or deep turquoise will do wonders for you.
3. Lastly, if you’re interested in a super polished or sophisticated look, pair the blazer with some black wide leg trousers. The all black look will be slimming but the velvet texture will give some variation. The wide leg trousers also give the illusion an elongated look, which is always a plus. The blouse under this should be simple…keep it clean and let your accessories give you that extra “something” instead. Check out Ellen Pompeo’s look below for some visual assistance! Hope this helps!
