Rue de Chic Style Countdown : The Best of 2010
The past year has been an amazing year for fashion. New trends emerged, femininity reigned supreme, we took multiple style trips to the past but most importantly, simplicity made a comeback. Here’s a breakdown of what made this year so fantastic!
Back to Basics – Celine’s Phoebe Philo makes the minimalist look chic again
Simple, streamlined and elegant are words that ushered in Fall and boy was it exciting. Gone were the days of excessive layering, less was more…less was perfect.
Leather came back with full force…
It was all about leather this past year, from leather skirts to leather blouses, leather shorts to leather trousers, even colored leather. It was the edge that the industry needed…
Fashion went soft for pastels…
From spring to fall, pastels kept things soft and feminine through multiple seasons.
Draped to perfection…
It was all about hugging every curve and highlighting your best assets this year.
Slouch was out and structure was in…
This not only applied to clothes but accessories too. From purses to travel bags, it was once again chic to be a lady.

Sarah Jessica Parker attends the Alexander McQueen Memorial Service and accessorizes with a stuctured clutch
A trip to the past…
The year of course wouldn’t be complete without a style trip to the past. We reminisced about the school boy days and took inspiration from the 60s and 70s.

This year, the blazer took a preppy chic turn. Blake lively rocks a school boy blazer on the set of Gossip Girl
As we bid adieu to this year, I end with a quote that I recently came across “Personal Style is like playing the piano. First you must learn to play by the rules, then you must forget the rules and play from your heart.” Here’s to playing from your heart in 2011! Happy new year to you all!

Holiday Look (PT 2) – Modern day Ice Princess
We’re pulling inspiration for this season’s holiday looks from some very fashionable ladies. Yesterday, it was all about going “tough girl chic with a feminine twist”. Today, we’re channeling a modern day Ice Princess with the help of another Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester. Pastels have been huge this fall and the holiday season is the perfect time to step up this trend with the help of a little sparkle. Leighton Meester knocks this trend out of the park in an ice blue Elie Saab dress, matching platforms and a silver clutch. The embellishments on this dress are incredibly feminine but the cut is very modern. The icing on top of the cake is the cinched waist.

Holiday Look (PT 1) – Tough girl chic with a feminine twist
With the holiday season comes a slew of parties and get-togethers which always leads to the inevitable question – “What am I going to wear?” Take a cue from Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively and go for the unexpected; pair a super feminine dress with a chic leather jacket. This is such an easy look to incorporate and you’ll stand out in the endless sea of monotonous holiday cocktail dresses. Blake’s layered dress in hot pink is sexy but her leather motorcycle jacket balances out her look. If you’re not so hot about the pink, a deep teal or shocking blue is a great alternative. When it come’s to leather jackets, only the softest will do. Stay away from bulky or stiff leather, go instead for light weight, fitted leather that hugs your every curve. Check out the exclusive “Gemma” layered leather jacket below.
Look of the Day – Blake Lively is festive in colored Leather
Leather is hot this season and no one knows that more than the newly minted “Vogue’s Best Dressed” headliner, Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively. Showing off her mile long legs and cementing her status as a fashion risk taker, this budding trendsetter takes a risk in a turquoise blue leather skirt with zipper details and a sequin and feather jacket. Give this trend a try with the “Mercer” turquoise blue leather dress with an exposed back zipper from Rue de Chic below.
Stay stylish this holiday season in hot cobalt blue
‘Tis the season to be jolly and colorful…This time of the year always brings with it, an assortment of gorgeous colors. It’s difficult not to fall in love with the deep reds and emerald greens that the holidays inspire. This season however, there’s another color that’s hard to ignore. Whether it comes in a dress, a structured jacket or even a scarf, cobalt blue is such a rich and elegant color that it always makes a statement. A lot of celebrities are also aware of the transformative power of this shocking color. Star’s like Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara, Desperate Housewive’s Eva Longoria and Model, Petra Nemcova all look chic and confident in cobalt blue.
Afraid to try out this trend? Start small and infuse your wardrobe this winter with a pop of color. Check out the cobalt blue scarf below…at only $24.50, it’s a hard bargain to pass up.
