Who wore it best? From the runway to the red carpet (Model vs. Sarah Jessica Parker)
The Spring 2012 runway presentations brought quite a number of whimsical looks — most notably at Louis Vuitton but as we all know, most runway looks don’t always translate well off the runway. Sarah Jessica Parker who’s a fan of a bit of whimsy herself, recently took one of the gorgeous ensembles from Vuitton out for a spin, attending the UNICEF snowflake ball in a feathered and dyed skirt and blouse combo. Model, Magda Laguinge strutted the look down the runway a few months ago, complete with a monogrammed Vuitton umbrella.
So who wore it best? It was impossible not to fall in love with this look as it came down the runway, it was a perfect spring fantasy realized and brought to life by the incredibly talented Marc Jacobs. That being said, Sarah Jessica took a risk with this look and pulled it off. It was an event appropriate outfit that evoked a certain lightness and charm that not many can pull off. Her look was fresh, playful and edgy at the same time. It also reminds you of something Carrie Bradshaw would wear. This round goes to SJP. What do you guys think? Do you prefer this look on the runway or did Sarah Jessica rock it? Share your thoughts below.
Who wore it best? From the runway to the red carpet (Model vs. Camilla Belle)
This week’s edition of Who wore it best? features one of the season’s most coveted colors. The look comes straight from uber designer Carolina Herrera’s Spring 2012 line and was strutted down the runway by model du jour Karlie Kloss. Actress Camilla Belle was the first to take the dress for a spin at the Art of Elysium gala and she looked absolutely beautiful in this gorgeous dress. So, on to the heavy task of deciding who wore it best.
This color is gorgeous on both model and actress but the straps look like they were shortened for Camilla and that little tweak in turn changes the look of the bust. Moreover, one of the selling points of the dress is the tea-length hem and you can’t really tell with Camilla’s because the length goes way past her ankles. I would also have loved to see her in sandals with less fabric. Simple t-strap gold heels would have been perfect for this. That being said, Camilla wears the back well. The delicate ribbon of this dress fits her frame and the train doesn’t overwhelm her. It’s both feminine and elegant and she carried it well. It looks like we’e looking at a 50/50 situation here. Karlie gets the front and Camilla gets the back. Who do you think won this battle? Share your thoughts below.
Who wore it best – Gwyneth Paltrow and Zoe Saldana both take on gorgeous green Elie Saab numbers
Looks like green is the couleur du jour and we’re absolutely loving it. Since the holiday spirit is in the air and ’tis the season to shine and be seen in shocking color, it was an absolute delight to see both Gwyneth Paltrow and newly single Zoe Saldana in gorgeous green Elie Saab numbers.
Both adorned with sequins that made each of the stars pop and irresistible silhouettes created by a cinched waist, it’s hard to decide who to crown the winner in this edition of who wore it best?
While Gwyneth Paltrow showed off some major skin and some equally major neck bling, Zoe proves that sometimes, less is more. The t-shirt sleeves on her dress coupled with the column silhouette provide a great balance to the drama of the sequins. Zoe’s look is the definition of elegant simplicity with just the perfect amount of playfulness. Sorry Gwyneth but Zoe takes the crown on this one. What do you guys of both looks? Which do you prefer?

Who wore it best – From the runway to the carpet (Model vs. Selena Gomez in Marchesa)
This week’s battle of who wore it best is over a gorgeous embroidered Marchesa top. Filled with exquisite details and channeling the ballet meets high glamour, this piece is not easy to pull off. Selena Gomez stepped out at MTV’s European Music Awards sporting the Marchesa creation with a tousled do, silver peep-toes, a red box clutch and no pants, looking slightly overwhelmed.
Her version has also been modified from the original which featured more tulle on the sleeves and on the neck giving it a much more Victorian feel. Kudos to Selena for stepping out of her comfort zone but I’m giving the model the crown on this one. In addition to making the mistake of wearing this top as a dress, what we have here is an unfortunate case of the dress wearing the owner and her stylist should have known better. The top is dramatic enough and didn’t need her overwhelming waves to compete with. Her hair should have been pulled back to bring focus to the stunning cut of the top’s high neck.
I also love the contrast created by the leather pants on the model. Bringing a sleek and modern element to the look continues to play on the edginess that the top is going for while maintaining a clean balance between the top and bottom. Who wore it best – From the runway to the carpet (Model vs. Blake Lively)
In today’s edition of who wore it best? It’s another battle over Marchesa. The British brand is no doubt a staple with A-list stars. Everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Nicole Kidman, Eva Longoria, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Hudson and Rihanna has at some point been beautifully draped in Marchesa. If you’re familiar with the brand, you know that it’s all about details when it comes to the clothes and the same is true with this embroidered red silk organza illusion cap sleeve dress with tulle ruffle skirt. So who wore it best? As much as Blake Lively has always proven herself on the carpet, the winner of this dress battle is the model and here’s why…The dress is a very full/heavy dress. The materials used and the texture created make it that way. Blake Lively loves to show off those legs and the dress looks like it may have been hemmed or shortened from the original version. By shortening the dress, you also lose the original shape and as a result, it looks a little boxy. Pair that with the cap sleeves which are tricky on most – including stunning Hollywood beauties and you have a not-quite-there fit. On the model, the dress has a shape and you know what they say, fit is everything!

Who wore it best – From the runway to the carpet (Model vs. Rachel McAdams)
In today’s edition of who wore it best, it’s a battle over the gorgeous MARCHESA embroidered red illusion dress with applique cascade skirt and shoulder. Rachel turned heads in this strategically sheer and super delicate dress at the Cannes film festival a few months ago while promoting her film, Midnight in Paris. As beautiful as the dress was on Rachel, after seeing it on display at the Marchesa Fall 2011 show, this dress was meant to be admired at a standstill. The beauty is in the details and every inch of this dress is a work of art.

Who wore it best – From the runway to the carpet (Model vs. Keira Knightely)
The Venice Film Festival took off last week and has brought in A-list stars promoting their films and trying to generate Oscar buzz for their work. The Couture of course is really what matters on the carpet and there has been no shortage of exceptional style. Keira Knightely’s “A Dangerous Method” premiered Friday at the festival and although the film is generating mixed reviews, the British star shined in Valentino Couture. As soon as I saw model, Freja Beha Erichsen saunter down the runway in this gorgeous dress earlier this year, I wondered who would pull off the elegance and fairy tale-esque quality of this dress on the carpet. I have to say Ms. Knightely does the job quite well. She wears the dress with the grace and elegance that it deserves and I’m sure somewhere out there, the tens of tiny, delicate fingers that put together this creation are also quite impressed.

Who wore it best double feature – From the runway to the carpet (Model vs. Sarah Jessica Parker)
Looks like it’s a double feature for Sarah Jessica Parker in this edition of who wore it best.
First up: Floral Elie Saab
The floral print has no doubt been the most frequented print on the carpet this past spring and summer. It also looks like this print is sticking around for fall as it was spotted on the Fall 2011 Runways. Ever the chic star, Sarah Jessica Parker seems to be a fan of the print as well. She recently sported this floral print Elie Saab gown from the Fall 2011 show. Below is the look straight from the Paris runway. The print, in this particular assortment of muted colors has the potential to look dowdy but SJP certainly looks like she’s having fun with it. I have to say her energy brings the dress to life and as great as it looks on the runway, it looks even better out in the real world (If we can call Hollywood the real world).
Look #2: Gorgeous Red Giambattista Valli
After featuring this look earlier this week, a lot of people were on the fence about the beauty of this dress. It of course always helps to see the original runway version, the was the designer envisioned it. There’s no doubt this dress was picked specifically for the drama it creates and I have to say that SJP gets an A+ for translating this dress beautifully to the carpet. It fits the premiere in Russia perfectly and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store.

Who wore it best – From the runway to the carpet (Model vs. Rihanna)
In today’s edition of who wore it best, Rihanna sports an Antonio Berardi 2012 Resort look while promoting her fragrance, Reb’l Fleur. Antonio Berardi is known for putting an interesting twist on trends whether it’s with mixing fabrics or creating interesting colors. Who could forget the very chic LBD Blake Lively wore to last year’s premiere of The Town?
Most runway looks never make it into production or on the red carpet. The idea is to create fantasy during a show and most people lean towards practicality in real life. Needless to say, it’s always fantastic to see celebrities like Rihanna take fashion risks on the carpet instead of going for cookie cutter looks. Ginnifer Goodwin recently sported a very edgy and colorful Roksanda Ilincic look at comic con, which not only showcased her interesting style but also made her stand out. Below is the runway look from Berardi’s collection.
So who wore it best…The model or Rihanna?
