Spring and Summer Trends 2013 PT2 (3 ways to dress up your favorite graphic tee)
TGIF! In honor of casual Friday and the upcoming weekend, here are 3 quick ways to dress up your favorite graphic tee.
Spring style – Miu Miu’s latest collection brings back ladylike chic
The House of Prada has always been synonymous with refined and at times understated elegance as well as exquisite and extraordinary detail. All you have to do is look back at last year’s Met Gala which honored Miuccia Prada and her accomplishments in fashion. The exhibit featured Prada’s designs from the late 1980s to the present, which meant a lot of Prada frocks on the carpet. From Carey Mulligan’s gold and silver paillete halter dress to Diane Kruger’s feathered violet number and Gwyneth Paltrow’s metallic mini, it was a night filled with some of the House’s most fascinating creations. While the well established brand has flourished over the years, it’s younger sister Miu Miu (an homage to Miuccia’s nickname) has created a niche by not only harvesting the elegance of the elder Prada brand, it has also incorporated a certain “chic” as well some “ladylike edge”.
A few weeks ago, the Rodeo Drive Miu Miu store in Beverly Hills unveiled what the brand has in store for spring, and it was certainly a mouth watering experience to say the least. Gorgeous pastel leather coats, dyed fur, beautiful stoles and exquisite silks immediately grab your eye. With many of the pieces flown in from Milan, it was hard to ignore the detail that went into creating each look that any girl would be excited to call her own.
In the midst of all the skin baring looks du jour, Miu Miu has separated itself by heralding a return to ladylike chic. Far from boring, the collection features pale and understated colors with a personality of their own. For the bohemian chic California girl, colorful platforms in pink, lime green and coral channel the stylish 60s. Crinkled silk blouses and dresses create effortless looks for the on-the-go girl while paint splatter print dresses easily take the working girl from day to night.
Get a fix of the latest Miu Miu collection at The Rodeo Drive location. The fantastic selection coupled with an incredibly generous staff makes it luxury at its finest.
Up close and personal on Rodeo Drive…

Trend Spotting – Banana Republic goes ‘Mad’ for 60s Mod
Banana Republic took over The Grove on Tuesday, February 26th in L.A. to launch its third Mad Men inspired capsule collection –60s style. Collaborating with the show’s award winning costume designer Janie Bryant, BR took an official leap into the mod era of the 1960s. The collection features bold colors and prints as well as stand out silhouettes that the mod era is known for. Fronting the campaign and on hand to help guests get mod-ified was super model Coco Rocha, who mentioned that her favorite part of bringing the 60s into our modern world is the excitement of inspiring people to dress up again.
When asked about her favorite pieces from the collection, the self-described “lazy model” (when it comes to dressing up only of course) who has stomped the runway for every high end designer including the likes of Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton, Christian Lacroix and Emmanuel Ungaro mentioned that she loved the appeal of the mod shirt dress and the striped knit dress which allowed her to transition easily from a simple and chic daytime look to a sexy nighttime look.
Guests at the mod pod were also given the opportunity to create their own mod-meets-modern look using pieces from the collection, while receiving beauty makeovers reflective of the capsule’s aesthetic. The best part? Your favorite look was on the house.

Model, Coco Rocha and Mad Men Costume Designer, Janie Bryant launch the Banana Republic Mod Pod at The Grove L.A.
The capsule collection will be available at select Banana Republic retail locations worldwide and online beginning February 27, 2013.

Trend Spotting – Sheer looks take Hollywood by storm

Jennifer Lopez shows off her curves in a white hot and sheer paneled KaufmanFranco LWD
We already know that when it comes to Hollywood trends, skin always seems to be in. This past week however, the stars couldn’t get enough of showing off their assets. Everywhere we looked, sheer looks and panels in general seemed to popping up. From the queen of skin –J.Lo to Country sweetheart Taylor Swift, the power of the peekaboo style was the look du jour. We compiled the week’s most daring looks and joining in the “sheer” stand-off are Jessica Alba, Alicia Keys and Nicole Richie and Paula Patton, each putting their own spin on things. So, of those who dared to bare, who worked this look? Share your thoughts below.

Who wore it best? Jessica Alba, Kristen Stewart, Kerry Washington and Kirsten Dunst all take on Louis Vuitton’s checkerboard print

Kristen Stewart stepped out in a checkerboard print Louis Vuitton Romper at a Tokyo press event for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.
Since Hollywood has the oh-so-great fortune of getting a head start on all trends and runway looks, it was only a matter of time before all the looks from the Spring 2013 RTW shows made it onto the red carpet. One of our favorite shows of the season was Marc Jacob’s colorful, eclectic and 60s infused presentation complete with checkerboard prints, flowers, neon colors and school girl bows. Twilight princess Kristen Stewart was the first to step out in a brown romper during her promotional tour of Breaking Dawn PT. 2. Other stars like Kerry Washington and Jessica Alba and Kirsten Dunst soon followed suit.

Retro Chic at Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2013 RTW Show
We love the retro feel of this print and it certainly takes a lot of fashion courage to step out in these looks. So who wore it best? Kristen Stewart takes the crown in this round. Since the actress always looks a tad awkward in skin tight dresses, it’s nice to see her at ease in this look. She looks effortlessly chic while retaining her tomboyish style. Kerry Washington takes the runner up position for having such an unpredictable sense of style and for going all the way by sporting a hair bow straight from the runway that most wouldn’t dare try out. Her minimalist take on this look gets her two thumbs up. What do you think? Who takes the cake in your book? Trend spotting – Naya shoes buckle up + enter to win a pair of the brand’s winter chic looks
When it comes to dressing up in the fall and winter months, I always say that the shoes make the look. The ability of a chic pair of booties to transform a simple, printed dress or a pair of knee high boots to elevate a cozy sweater and skinnies never ceases to amaze me. Which is why I’m oh so excited to announce a fantastic collaboration with Naya shoes. As part of their Blogger challenge, I was asked to create a look centering around one of fall’s hottest trends in footwear – BUCKLES! Never one to pass up a styling challenge, I put together a 70s glam inspired look with a modern twist. I paired my buckled “Virtue” booties with a retro-printed dress, faux-fur shag, some chunky gold accessories / accents and a light green faux-croc clutch. The “Virtue” was such a fun piece to style and I loved that they reminded me a little of cowboy boots. The leather was slightly distressed and ultra soft. Paired with the “high-enough” chunky heel — and I was completely sold.
As part of the challenge, Naya is showcasing all the blogger looks on their facebook page. Please vote for my look here and you’ll be automatically entered to win a pair of Naya’s of your own. Voting ends on Monday, December 17th.
xx Wemi

Trend spotting – Printed pants are heating up the summer months
We’re knee deep into the summer months and we’re continuing with our trend spotting duties this week with a bold look taking over the carpet. Gone are the days of simple streamlined trousers, these days it’s all about bringing a little edge and a bit of funk to your look — courtesy of printed pants. From floral to ikat, denim to billowing shorts, stars are opting for something different when it comes to bottoms this summer. Here are some of our favorite looks so far.
Style tip: As fun and funky as this trend is, keep in mind that print on the bottom sometimes has the tendency to make you look bigger than you are (especially with denim) and even the tiniest person has to keep this in mind. Check out Olivia Palermo’s look below for a great way to incorporate this trend. Her high-waisted, ankle length trousers are a great play on print and proportion. The fit is great, the print doesn’t overwhelm her small frame and the material doesn’t cling to every inch of her body. Zoe Saldana’s shorts look below is also simple, elegant and incredibly easy to wear. One last thing to remember with this trend is to always keep things simple on top. The bottom is the focal point of your look and therefore your statement piece. If you’re going with color, pick one color from the print and go for a top that features that block of color. This is a great way to tie your whole look together.
What do you think of the printed pants look? Will you be trying it this summer? Share your thoughts below.
Steal this look – Spring takes inspiration from the boys with a splash of fedoras
They say accessories make the outfit. A statement necklace, detailed drop earrings, a cocktail ring or draped scarf in a shocking color can put a stylish stamp on the simplest look and all of a sudden, you’re elevated to the next level. After a winter of layering, we at Rue de Chic are skipping into spring with a little help and inspiration from some stylish and seriously sexy men of the past.
This spring is all about the perfectly structured wool fedora. Not to be left behind, Hollywood has already taken note of this trend. Check out the many ways to pretty up this look below.
