2013 Met Gala – The oscars of fashion channel the punk era

Fashion’s biggest night took over New York City last night. The venue was the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the theme was dark, edgy and rebellious. Simply put, it was punk. Anna Wintour hosted the event with actress Rooney Mara who brought her  best version of punk to the big screen in the english speaking version of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”. The event’s other co-chair was socialite and Vogue contributing editor, Lauren Santo Domingo. The punk themed event apparently caused a frenzy amongst stylists and stars alike as many wondered how they would mix this very specific style with the glamour that the red carpet requires. As stars from the entertainment, fashion and sports world congregated on the famed Metropolitan stairs, the one question on everyone’s mind as always was “who are you wearing?”. Here’s a breakdown of the night’s most daring looks.

Trend Spotting – Banana Republic goes ‘Mad’ for 60s Mod

Mad for Mod - Banana Republic Mad Men Capsule Collection

Mad for Mod – Banana Republic Mad Men Capsule Collection

Banana Republic took over The Grove on Tuesday, February 26th in L.A. to launch its third Mad Men inspired capsule collection –60s style. Collaborating with the show’s award winning costume designer Janie Bryant, BR took an official leap into the mod era of the 1960s. The collection features bold colors and prints as well as stand out silhouettes that the mod era is known for. Fronting the campaign and on hand to help guests get mod-ified was super model Coco Rocha, who mentioned that her favorite part of bringing the 60s into our modern world is the excitement of inspiring people to dress up again.

When asked about her favorite pieces from the collection, the self-described “lazy model” (when it comes to dressing up only of course) who has stomped the runway for every high end designer including the likes of Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton, Christian Lacroix and Emmanuel Ungaro mentioned that  she loved the appeal of the mod shirt dress and the striped knit dress which allowed her to transition easily from a simple and chic daytime look to a sexy nighttime look.

Guests at the mod pod were also given the opportunity to create their own mod-meets-modern look using pieces from the collection, while receiving beauty makeovers reflective of the capsule’s aesthetic. The best part? Your favorite look was on the house.

Chic looks of the week – The best of New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is officially over and things are moving on to London, Paris and Milan. Before we get to the trends on the runway however, let’s take a peek at the looks that stood out all over the city. Fashion Week is always a time for actresses, editors, buyers and many more style aficionados to strut their best stuff from tent to tent. As photographers and industry insiders anticipate the looks on the runways, there’s usually another kind of buzz happening pre-show. Starlets give their best model impressions while posing in the front row while editors who these days have just as much star power rub shoulders and schmooze with Hollywood. From the Fashion’s Night Out festivities that kicked things off, straight to the runways of Calvin Klein, Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Victoria Beckham, Rodarte and many more, here’s a little behind the scenes look at a few of our favorite “girls about town” and their very stylish outings this fashion week.

Fashion’s biggest night is back – A quick guide to Fashion’s Night Out in Los Angeles

Taylor Swift campaigns for Fashion's Night Out

Fashion’s Night Out is once again upon us. Since its inception in 2008, the yearly extravaganza that celebrates all things fashion now runs across the world from New York to L.A, London to Paris. From epic sales, to live DJs, food trucks and runway shows, the city is going to be packed tonight with memorable activities. Here’s a quick guide to what’s happening for Fashion’s Night Out in Los Angeles.

Robertson Boulevard
The retailers of Robertson Boulevard, from Beverly to Third, are opening their doors and inviting you to join them for the first annual Robertson Celebrates! Fashion’s Night Out street party which pays tribute to “Iconic L.A.”

An anticipated 2,000 guests will stroll down Robertson Boulevard enjoying live music, interactive elements and unique art-inspired activities. Each of Robertson’s retailers will be creating a fabulous FNO experience with special branded treats, cocktails galore and extended shopping hours to make sure you get a chance to view all the brands’ latest fall fashions.

And, of course, there will be an invitation-only VIP party with surprise celebrity guests stopping by to celebrate a tribute to Los Angeles’ favorite iconic shopping spot. A portion of the proceeds from the evening’s festivities will benefit the Vintage Hollywood Foundation.

Kendall Jenner is the face of FNO Beverly Center

Beverly Center
Beverly Center will shine light on L.A.’s most iconic influences, from fashion to entertainment and music, with a star-studded evening complete with signature fashion shows, celebrity and stylist appearances, shopper incentives and more. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will kick things off with a video address to the public followed by an appearance from Lisa Love, West Coast Editor of Vogue and the evening’s Host, Actress and Singer, Lucy Hale.

Experience the Opening Ceremony and Fashion Shows from all three levels on Beverly Center’s interactive LED Jumboscreen. Fashion shows will showcase fall collections and Kendall Jenner – who is the face of the Beverly Center’s FNO campaign – is expected to attend.

Rodeo Drive
Although there’s no circus theme this year, 30 to 40 stores are expected to host individual events. Bottega Veneta, for instance will introduce a new line of eco-friendly handbags and Chanel will present a new Fashion’s Night Out collection of matching lip and nail duos. Feeling charitable, Prada and Miu Miu will be giving a cut of the night’s proceeds to P.S. Arts, a non-profit organisation that promotes arts education. Did we mention you can also indulge in a little chocolate while browsing for bubbles at Harry Winston?

West Hollywood
Browse the launch of limited-edition accessories showcasing drawings of Grace Coddington’s cat at Balenciaga or peruse fashion installations at Palihouse.
