This past week in notable events – Music meets fashion at Andrew Charles show
The Hilfiger name and brand has always been synonymous with the American dream. While Tommy built his empire, younger brother Andy was also toiling away behind the scenes –starting off with selling jeans in his brother’s store and eventually building himself up as a mover and shaker in the realm of launching celebrity fashion lines. His collaboration with Jennifer Lopez alone resulted in $250 million in sales, the launch of the uber successful fragrance Glow by JLo, an MTV documentary promoting the launch of the line and of course more exposure for the singer/actress/designer.
These days, Hilfiger is stepping out of the shadows with the launch of his eponymous line, Andrew Charles. The Designer however, hasn’t forgotten his secret ingredient–celebrity collaborations. The line is a joint effort with rock star and American Idol Judge, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.
Musical inspiration is nothing new to Hilfiger, who has been involved in music from a very young age. When I meet Hilfiger at the showing of his collection at Macy’s in Sherman Oaks, he mentions that past rock & roll and soul influences have always found a place in his designs. This is evident in his latest boho-chic meets rock star girlfriend-inspired collection. Family is another recurring theme. As one of nine kids, the designer recalled being inspired by the variation in musical taste and style of his brothers and sisters. A few minutes into our interview and after getting a glimpse into his passion for music and family, I realize that his collaboration with Steven Tyler makes perfect sense.
Tyler’s sense of style has after all survived many generations, trends and fashion cycles. The importance of family is also a recurring theme with the rock star whose daughters are backstage and proudly supporting their dad. I get a chance to meet the family before I leave and the energy of both the Hilfiger and Tyler clans coming together is nothing short of exciting. Mia, Tyler’s daughter –a budding photographer introduces herself, there’s another photographer documenting the craziness backstage and taking group portraits. When Tyler himself finally enters the room, everything becomes elevated. His eclectic style, contagious personality and sweet demeanor are all things you expect but aren’t actually sure you’ll get. I can see why Hilfiger believes this collaboration is a dream come true.
Andrew Charles, named after Creative Director Andy Hilfiger, is available in the Impulse departments of Macy’s stores nationwide and also at Macys.com.

Macy’s “Glamorama” brings an impressive night of Fashion & Entertainment to L.A
For the second year in a row, Macy’s Passport Presents Glamorama took over The Orpheum Theatre in Downtown LA for an “ARTrageous” night. This year, it was all about the merging of fashion and entertainment to raise money and awareness for HIV/AIDS organizations. The night brought together the hottest designers, celebrities, models and entertainers for a night of glitz and glamour. From incredible runway looks from designers like Armani Jeans, Bar III, Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld for Impulse, Papi, Rachel Rachel Roy, Tommy Hilfiger, Tracy Reese and more to unforgettable performances by Cee Lo and Far East Movement, the night definitely made a mark as one to remember. Closing out the night was an “artlandish” post-party at CalMart, also in Downtown LA.

The boys at Armani Jeans were fitted in military style looks, textured sweaters, schoolboy blazers and leather jackets - rugged masculinity all the way

The 70s girl was in complete control at Tracy Reese - pleated flowing skirts, faux fur paired with aviators, tiered looks, ruffles and sequins - who could say no?

The show took a few minutes to salute the late Elizabeth Taylor and honor her for all her charitable contributions to AIDS and HIV causes

Sharon Stone took the stage with Elizabeth Taylor's grandsons to honor the late Actress and Philanthropist

Plaid, faux leather, boucle textures and faux fur were hot for the impulse collection - 1920s Parisian chic meets 70s party girl
Take a front row seat and experience the Glamorama magic…
This year’s event once again benefited AIDS Project Los Angeles and Project Angel Food.
Master the trends for Fall – A breakdown of Fall 2011′s must-have looks + tips to make them your own
As Fashion Week gets underway in NYC and the gorgeous and colorful Spring 2011 looks saunter down the runways, it’s easy to forget that fall is here and now and spring is more than a few months away. Not to worry though, based on the looks featured on the earlier fall runways, the upcoming months need not be dreary nor do you need to give up even an ounce of color. With the runways featuring rich colors like cobalt blue, marigold, burnt orange and shocking red; texture that ranged from lace to leather and prints galore, the upcoming season is gearing up to be anything but boring when it comes to fashion.
Here’s a peek at trends to look forward to this coming fall season…
Color: The runways were rich with color for fall, two colors in particular made their mark – Cobalt Blue and Emerald Green. Everyone from Oscar de la Renta to Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Ralph Lauren and 3.1 Phillip Lim showed their love for these colors. Other interesting colors to look out for fall are Marigold and burnt Orange. Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler and Victoria Beckham all featured these gorgeous colors.
Style Tip: Color is the best and easiest way to stand out with your fall wardrobe. Go for structured jackets in shocking colors to incorporate this runway trend into your wardrobe. Try a cobalt blue swing jacket or an emerald green trench coat. You’ll keep warm and stay stylish, all with a pop of color.
Lace: Looks like lace is here to stay. Both Carolina Herrera and Monique Lhuillier showed very feminine and elegant looks incorporating lace and lace print. Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu also featured this trend.
Style Tip: The key to keeping the elegance of this trend is to find something that doesn’t show too much skin or combines the use of other materials like black silk or leather.
Leather: The leather movement is going strong and from what we saw during New York Fashion Week, it has no intention of slowing down. From 3.1 Phillip Lim to Alexander Wang, Derek Lam, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, leather made a huge splash. It came in pants, shift dresses, pastel colors, rich dark colors and it was fabulous.
Style Tip: This is such an easy trend to incorporate into your wardrobe. You can pair some leather leggings with an oversized sweater and pumps, go for a rocker chic look with a motorcycle jacket which can be worn with skinny jeans, leggings or a dress to add a feminine touch.
Print: If color played a starring role in the collections, print played a co-starring role. Oscar de la Renta’s runway was rich with exotic prints which is an extension of what we saw in the spring and summer months. Marc Jacobs made us fall in love with polka dots, big and small, Proenza Schouler incorporated his mélange of prints into everything from structured jackets to pants, skirts and shift dresses and Monique Lhuillier made animal print incredibly elegant.
Style Tip: Always balance out your prints with an item in a solid color. Pair a tribal print shift dress with a structured black blazer or print pants with a simple pastel colored silk top.
The “new” Pants: The runways featured sleek, elegant trousers for fall so just because summer is over doesn’t mean you should pack up those 70s inspired pants. Sticking to the theme of elegant simplicity, the “it” pants of the season are definitely the ankle pants. Everyone from Calvin Klein to 3.1 Phillip Lim and Jason Wu showed us the perfect city chic look with these pants.
Style Tip: These pants are equally chic with a pair of oxfords or sky high pumps.
Glitz & Glamour in Venice – A breakdown of red carpet style at the Venice Film Festival
Film festivals like the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival are where A-listers go to generate buzz for their films and to show the international film community how much credibility they have as artists. It’s also most importantly, where you go to show off your Couture. From Gwyneth Paltrow in Prada to Keira Knightely in Valentino, there were definitely a lot of hits in Venice this year but as we all know, where there are hits, there will be misses. Here’s a look at the glitz and glamour in Venice.
Before a premiere, there’s usually a photo call. Below, we’ve gathered all the fashionable photocall looks from the past week.

Evan Rachel Wood goes for a high neck and houndstooth pumps at "The Ides Of March" photocall - 68th Venice Film Festival

The actress also attended the photocall for "Mildred Pierce" and went for a menswear inspired look with a feminine twist

Evan Rachel Wood was joined by her costar Kate Winslet, who sported chic shorts and a blazer at the "Mildred Pierce" photocall
On to the carpet…
Other red carpet events around town…
Missteps at the Festival

Pre- photocall, Abbie Cornish in Elie Saab. Abbie definitely made some chic choices while in Venice but this LBD was not a winner. There's nothing wrong with the dress itself. The problem is that cap sleeves don't work on everyone. In this case, they make the actress look bulkier than she really is. The necklace is also a no-go. It's completely pointless with this dress and almost makes here neck look stunted. Remember, it's all about cut and fit.

Robin Wright attended the 2011 GUCCI Award For Women In Cinema in a gold dress that did nothing for her shape. Her boyish cut and pale makeup was also a mismatch for the whole look. Sometimes, simple is better.

Model, Bar Rafaeli donned a silk jumpsuit with lace inserts at the "Carnage" premiere. Bar is a beautiful girl but this is neither the place nor the time for a jumpsuit. The film festival is all about glamour and elegance whether simple or exaggerated. This jumpsuit is neither.

Fashion at the Teen Choice Awards – The good, the bad and the ugly
Stars strutted on the blue carpet this weekend in their Sunday best. While some like Rachel Bilson and Blake Lively looked chic, others like Tyra Banks bombed. Here’s a breakdown of the night’s hottest looks as well as the unfortunate missteps.
The Missteps of the night…

Nikki Reed was almost too casual in this printed maxi + the print and cut of the dress did absolutely nothing for the Twilight actress.

There are no words to describe this leather jumpsuit Tyra Banks donned for the event. It's great to see her in shape and flaunting her figure but even Catwoman wouldn't mess with this disaster.

Joining Tyra in the strange closet is Vampire Diaries' Kat Graham who looks like she's ready to fly away in this feathered and fringed mini.

Fashion at the ‘Brits to watch’ event – Details on Kate’s dress, trends and other stylish stars on the carpet
This past weekend brought the Royals to the City of Angels. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge performed their charitable duties and found time to mingle with Hollywood’s elite. Of course, all eyes were on what Kate was wearing. Here’s a breakdown of the gorgeous red carpet looks…
Light and airy were the words when it came to style on the red carpet at the BAFTA Brits To Watch event in downtown Los Angeles.

The Duchess started off an evening of gorgeous pastels in an elegant, sweeping, lavender Alexander McQueen gown by Sarah Burton
Of course there was no absence of shocking color…
Other stars went metallic for the night…
The unfortunate…

Unfortunately, Actress Dana Delany picked the wrong time to experiment with her style. Her printed mermaid gown did absolutely nothing for her and her multi-colored fur stole was not only completely out of place at the event but also uncalled for on a summer evening.
After making their way inside, Hollywood got a chance to meet the British Royalty one on one…
